KIDZONE - after school programming for elementary and middle schools in District 500 Kansas City Kansas Schools 1998-2003

The Storytellers Inc. provided after school programming for children in grades k-5 in twelve elementary schools in the Kansas City, Kansas Public School District. The inclusion of art education provides youth the ability to use art as a communication tool to overcome obstacles in life; creative problem solving, gaining larger perspective of life instead of focusing on small matters, creating new reality instead of reacting. Youth who have experiences in the arts have proven to be social adjusted, have higher academic scores, able to be a team player in non-competitive manner. The Storytellers Inc. artists provided rotational programs such as puppeting, plays, drums, video, and environmental awareness projects which allow youth to collaboratively reach goals and learn about the environment and academics in a way that directly relates to creative careers.

Collaborators included EPA - KC Mentoring Initiative, Kansas Health Careers Pathways Program - KUMED, Kansas City Kansas - Prevention Services, Kansas City Kansas Housing Authority, Campfire USA, and 4-H.
